Deby

Hello my name is Deborah (Deby). I’m a mother of three amazing kids, raging from late teens to early 20s. I love to travel and especially love the beach. I enjoy hiking, bowling, putt-putt golf, singing, dancing, and beach-combing with my children. I am a very family oriented woman who enjoys spending the majority of my free time with my loved ones.

I am a very self-motivated, organized person who embraces a challenge. I worked as a general manager of a family owned business for 22 years, where I was given full responsibility of running the operation for the owners as if the business were my own. After the business closed in 2013 I went to work as a Trimet bus driver for a year.

I have always been a natural care-giver and always dreamed of being a nurse. In 2014 I began caring for my terminally ill mother as a home care worker. Due to her illness I chose to go back to school to realize my life-long dream of becoming a nurse. I also in 2014 became a hospice volunteer for Providence Health Care. I found hospice volunteering to be very fulfilling and helpful in caring for my mother in her final days.

I attended EMT school in 2014 at Clackamas Community College as part of my predatory work to apply to nursing school. I graduated from Clackamas Community College in 2017 with honors. I was accepted to nursing school at the age of 49 as I’m not afraid of a challenge, in fact I embrace them. Unfortunately in 2019 my mother passed from the COPD after 6 years in my care. This was right at the end of my first year in nursing school. Then in March of 2019 my sister also passed so I never got to return to nursing school. I loved working in hospice and caring for my mother as a home care worker. So I started caring for a child with ADHD and I really enjoyed it as well. I feel I am meant to be in the health care field at whatever capacity I can for it is my passion and I feel my calling.

I look forward to this new chapter in my life as a Direct Support Person with ARISE Mentors and working with some amazing people building more memories a a care-giver and being of help to others.
